Let me tell you about …..
I have begun to experience successes and failures since working my craft at a few events this past month. There is one big challenge that I have recognized that I need to overcome – I need to be better at conversations. I typically greet everyone who passes by my table with a ‘hello’ or a ‘hi’. Once they stop and come to the table, that is where my struggle begins. How do you keep the conversation going?
I have met some amazing fellow vendors at the few markets that I have attended. One such vendor, Patsy, is so talented. I want to be like her when I grow up. She is creative and unique. The items that she sells are so brilliantly put together. I love them. In addition to her outstanding talent is her thoughtfulness. Prior to me starting to attend markets as a vendor, she took the time to speak in detail on how she approaches her market and business. In doing so, I truly felt the affirmation that I would give this a go. Fast forward a few markets later, and I ran into Patsy as a fellow vendor. I mentioned to her that I find myself struggling with keeping the conversation going. Without even skipping a beat, she came up with the perfect solution. She said, ‘talk about the experience and the drive that you have for creating your wares. What motivates you and how you feel when you make, create and show your talent on the table.’ It was the perfect advise to give me at a time when I have been lost for words.
I am not sure if Patsy will ever see this, but I am sure to run into again at a market some day. I owe her many thanks for the advise and support that she has given me.
I have a market this coming Saturday and I am going to test out this new approach. I have many fun things to talk about when it comes to my craft.
